Here is an Outside view and an Inside View of The Pit
You hear a voice screaming for you to come down and help. You lean over The Bottomless Pit and look down, you can see forever. The voice screams again asking for help one last time, and then it happens, the Creature that lives down in the Pit attacks and eats its victim and all you can do is enjoy the sounds of crunching bones, grinding teeth and the shrill cries of another victim lost, to THE BOTTOMLESS PIT.
Materials Needed:
1 - 2 foot by 2 foot piece of Mirror
1 - 2 foot by 2 foot piece of 2 Way Glass (one side is a mirror and the other side looks like plain glass that you can see through. You can get this from any glass place, get it together with the Mirror)
3 - 8 foot 2x4's
1 - sheet of plywood
1 - Light socket with a plug attached (this will plug directly into a wall outlet)
1 - 100 watt light bulb
1- tape recorder with a loop tape (A loop tape plays constantly so there will be no rewinding, get a loop tape that is 1 minuet long, that should be enough. Once you have the tape record some screams and even a monster or two and make sure to add an echo to the finished version by using windows sound recorder for that down in the pit effect.
4 sheets of Pink Foam insulation (get it from Home Depot)
Some water paint - brown, black, white, etc.
Contact Cement
Instructions:
Step 1 - Cut the plywood in 3 foot by 2 foot sections
Step 2 - cut the 2x4's into 2 foot pieces, you will need 8 of them ( these pieces will be used to hold the mirror and the 2 way Glass in place. You will need to use a router and make a groove in the 2x4 so the Mirror and the 2 way glass can fit into the grooves when you assemble the top and bottom portion of the Pit. You will use 4 of the 2 foot 2x4's for the top frame and the other 4 for the bottom frame. The Glass pieces will fit into the grooves of the wood and then you can screw the 2x4 together making the top and bottom frames of The Pit. The 2 way glass will be the top frame and the mirror will be the bottom frame. When the light is turned on in the pit and you look down into the pit, whatever you have on the walls will reflect back and forth just like in a barber Shop when you look in a mirror in front of you and you see the mirror in back of you , you see infinity. This leads us to our next step.
Step 3 - Get the pink foam insulation and cut it to look like stone pieces. Then paint them stone colors (don't use spray paint, it will melt the foam insulation.)
Step 4 - Make some corners out of some of the left over 2x4's ( refer to Diagram 1 , these corners will hold the pit together and act as a rest for the frames with the mirrors in them.) Just cut one 3 inch piece and one 2 inch piece and screw them together. Remember you will need 8 of them. DIAGRAM 1
Step 5 - Cut or have the plywood cut where you but it to four 3 foot by 2 foot sections.
Step 6 - Assemble the four pieces of plywood using the 8 corners you made. Refer to Diagram 2. Screw them into each corner making sure you have a good fit. DIAGRAM 2
Step 7 - When the plywood is assemble drill a hole in the center of the plywood pieces for the light. Without the light there is no reflection, just darkness.
Step 8 - After the light is in glue the stone pieces on the inside of the pit.
Step 9 - if you made the pit correctly the plywood box should fit into the mirror frame. (Remember the mirror frame is the bottom frame. The top frame which is the 2 way glass frame should fit onto the top of the plywood and rest on the 4 top corners. Make sure you have the corners even so they support the glass frames evenly.)
Step 10 - Slide the tape player with the loop tape under the pit and let it play !
THE END !
